We’re delighted that Adrian Sladdin, Director, Seventh Wave Corporate Training is chairing our Player Protection Forum in March 2022. It’s going to be a busy few days for Adrian. On day 3 he’ll be holding an exclusive Workshop designed to build on the learning across the two previous days.

So with a quick insight into what to expect from the Workshop we’ll hand over to Adrian…

I’ve noticed a lot recently that a lot of safer gambling talk often ends up discussing the notion of education, alongside all of the other usual objects of our attention; however, although it’s good to hear the ‘E’ word, I’m not sure that everyone has quite grasped the full implications of its meaning in this context.

Don’t worry, though. I’m not going to go all Latin on you and explain the meaning of education. What I do want to say is that we’re going to explore the idea of educating our customers as part of our brand-new Seventh Wave training on Day 3 of the KnowNow Player Protection Forum.

I’ll be delivering the training in person. For those of you who don’t know me, I started out life as a teacher and then a trainer, and as recently as 2014/15 I helped set up the education charity YGAM, creating all the original training and materials which we successfully delivered in the UK and Europe, so I should know what I’m talking about. I’ve also spent the last five years developing safer gambling qualifications and training for operators both land-based and online.

As part of the training we’ll take a peek at what happens in schools these days with regard to quality of education around gambling, but we will also be thinking about what happens when young people get to 18 and have the freedom to choose how to live their lives and their pastimes, including gambling.

Onboarding of new players.

We’ll talk about the onboarding of new players, the education they receive (or don’t) from operators on how to play, the advice and guidance they receive on playing safely and what happens when things do go wrong. We have also got the latest data and figures on young people and gambling to explore from our friends at 2CV, considering how and why young people start to gamble.

Finally we look at practicalities going forward. Given that education is always the best way forward to prevent future problems, how should gambling companies change their ways of operating to welcome future players into a safe and responsible gambling environment?
